Slovak crown introduced as currency 25 years ago today

February 2, 1993 saw the Act of Monetary Separation enacted by the National Council of the Slovak Republic, which introduced the new Slovak koruna (crown), the new currency of the then just-established Slovak Republic. At midnight, six days later, the Slovak crown (SKK) began to be accepted as payment in the Slovak Republic, displacing the Czechoslovak crown (CSK). The exchange rate for both the new Slovak crown and Czech crown was set at a ratio of 1:1. On January 1, 2009, Slovakia adopted the Euro as its current currency after meeting the EU’s convergence criteria.
