Average house price falls in Slovakia

The average price of housing in Slovakia decreased by €18 per square metre to a total of €1,360 per square metre in the fourth quarter of 2017. However, compared to the previous quarter, there was a slight increase in the average price of flats and apartments, the Slovak central bank (NBS) reported. In most Slovak regions, according to NBS, the average price of housing fell in the fourth quarter of 2017 due to new and established family homes becoming more available. Additionally, increasing household incomes contributed this. NBS predicts that moderate growth to stagnation in housing prices can be expected in the coming period. According to NBS's analysis, the deceleration of the yearly growth in the housing prices, and its decline in the last quarter, could be a signal that the housing prices are hitting the limit of what Slovaks can afford.
