A female tram passenger armed with a knife attacked a young ticket controller who asked to check her ticket earlier this week, reported the SME daily on Wednesday. The incident happened on a Košice tram at mid-day on Tuesday (January 30), directly in front of the regional police directorate. The woman was immediately detained by police officers. The ticket controller, who was stabbed in the chest, was taken to the Louis Pasteur University Hospital in Kosice. "The patient is conscious, in stable condition and is communicating. His life is not in danger," said the hospital's spokesperson Ivana Stašková. He will remain in hospital for a couple of days. The woman attacked the ticket controller with a boning knife with traffic in the area of the incident being halted for several hours. A group of anxious ticket controllers who had gathered at the scene afterwards confirmed that passengers often react against them aggressively. However, such a serious attack against a ticket controller had not happened before.
