Twelve Slovaks received the "Righteous Among Nations" award at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava on Wednesday. This is an honorary title used by the State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews from extermination by the Nazis during the Holocaust.
The names of the laureates will be inscribed on the Wall of Honour in the Garden of the Righteous in Jerusalem. So far, more than 570 Slovaks have had their names placed there.
