€10 million from the state budget is to be allocated to the reconstruction of university halls of residence, said Prime Minister Robert Fico. He added that if the economy fares well, another €10 million could be earmarked for the same purpose later this year. Reacting to the announcement, the Student Council of Universities expresses disappointment with the sum. "At a time when the government is talking about the very good performance of the Slovak economy, the coalition allocates only 20 per cent of the former promise given in2015 by Prime Minister Fico," said the Council's President Bálint Lovász. Earlier this month, both the Student Council of Universities and the Christian Democratic Youth of Slovakia sent an open letter to Prime Minister Fico, asking him to address the financing and reconstruction of university dorms. The Education Ministry allocated approximately €2.5 million for repairs to university dorms in 2015-2017, with the money going mainly on fixing the facilities that were in the most severe state of disrepair.
