Slovakia wants better collection of fines from foreign drivers

Slovakia is negotiating with the European Commission on the matter of collection of fines from foreign drivers of passenger cars who use highways and expressways in Slovakia without buying the required electronic vignette. It wants to improve the system of information exchange on car registration data between countries. According to the Slovak Transport Ministry, these drivers can be controlled only on a so-called escape route from a highway by the police, for example, with random checks. They were, however, unable to provide data on how many drivers were caught who had not bought an electronic toll vignette, or how much money the Slovak state budget is losing because of this.
