Foodstuffs make up almost one fifth of Slovaks' total monthly expenditures, ranking Slovakia among the EU countries with a higher-than-average share of this item on total spending, according to Slovak Farm Cooperative (SFD) analyst Eva Sadovská. The Slovak Statistics Office's figures show a total monthly cost per Slovak household member at €358.4 on average in 2016. Following several years of decline or stagnation, food prices in Slovakia posted rapid growth over the past couple of months, going up 6.4 percent year-on-year in December 2017. "The family budget of Britons is the least burdened with purchasing foodstuffs, making up a mere 8.1 percent of their total monthly cost. Food bills constitute less than 10 percent of the total monthly spending in Luxembourg, Austria and Germany," said Sadovská.
