Slovakia aims to be part of European education area

The first European education summit was held in Brussels on Thursday with Minister Martina Lubyová representing Slovakia. It was focused on laying the foundations of the European education area by 2025. The EU Commissioner Tibor Navracsics pointed out that the European education system is far too comprehensive, focused more on knowledge than skills. He suggested that EU schools should rather support students' social, entrepreneurial and digital skills. According to Slovak Minister the common European education area means higher support for the mobility of students within the EU. She named the Erasmus program as one of the options for reducing the brain-drain from Europe. Lubyová also said that one of the goals is to create a network of universities for European studies including institutions of all member states, not only the schools with highest rankings. These would be focused on "European added value", i.e. knowledge about Europe and European studies. As she added, Slovakia has the ambition to be included in this network.
