Specialists may find it easier to become GPs

Doctors who already have their specialisation should have the option to obtain the qualification of a general practitioner faster, the TASR press agency reported on Wednesday. Thus, the Health Ministry aims to react to the lack of general practitioners in Slovakia. "Previous studies of specialists would be accepted and, thus they could spend not three but, for example, two years in the resident program," said Zuzana Eliášová, spokesperson of the Health Ministry, adding that this directive will have to go through legislative procedures. Increasing the number of general practitioners is the task of an ongoing resident program, which already has first 60 graduate doctors from last year. This year €7 million is planned to be spend on it.
