Those tens of thousands of Slovaks who have lived in Great Britain for at least five years have nothing to fear regarding Brexit, the Sme daily wrote on Tuesday. Unlike some rumours have claimed, they will not be forced to leave the UK, nor will they lose their social benefits. At the beginning of December 2017, the European Union signed a preliminary agreement with the UK stipulating that people coming from EU member states will have the same guaranteed rights after Brexit as they currently enjoy. The current decision on accepting degrees and qualifications - e.g. from doctors and architects - will be respected as well. This agreement implies that Slovaks who have been living in Great Britain for five or more years will essentially have the same rights as Britons.
