Record low number of crimes last year

Around 66,000 crimes were committed in Slovakia last year; a historical record low number, according to Police Corps president Tibor Gašpar. The majority of those recorded were thefts. The police's success rate in resolving individual crimes increased to almost 58 percent, higher than in the previous period. "We calculated the number of crimes per 1,000 inhabitants within the districts of Slovakia, with Bánovce nad Bebravou and Dolný Kubín being the safest, and Bratislava being the most dangerous. Three districts within the capital are affected by having the highest number of people who don't live in Bratislava in terms of permanent residence but commit crimes there," said Gašpar.
