Student of law at Cambridge University, Jozef Maruščák, has created software named CaseCrunch which utilises artificial intelligence to predict the outcomes of litigation. The system was able to beat more than a hundred renowned lawyers in the contest, with the software's results faring better than the human predictions. "The lawyers made more than 750 predictions with a success rate of 62.3 percent, while the CaseCrunch system was successful in 86.6 percent of cases," said Maruščák to the Hospodárske Noviny business daily. According to its creator, the system learns and improves itself without human instruction, revealing factors a person may overlook. Maruščák hopes the software can assist both lawyers and the public, though he adds it will never completely replace lawyers.
