Trade Chamber Head: Slovakia's independence justified

Nobody believed in 1993 that Slovakia could do well as a state independent from the Czechs in economic, financial and perhaps even broader societal terms, according to Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Peter Mihók. "We who were taking part in the process - initially by explaining and then by establishing individual institutions - found ourselves in a particularly difficult situation. What matters, however, is that the following years demonstrated that this move was justified, and I stand fully behind this claim. It emerged that Slovakia is able to survive economically, and not only that, it's also able to develop. It became evident that we're able to observe international norms and adapt our economy to a broader economic area - the EU's internal market. We were even able to accelerate the entire process by adopting the euro and, above all, by creating the conditions for its adoption," said Mihók.
