The Slovak Agriculture and Food Chamber stressed its disappointment with the state subsidies for the sector for this year, a mere €1 million, when in fact around €70 million is needed. "It won't make our farmers and food producers competitive on the common European market. We're demanding €70 million. We'll attempt to persuade politicians this year that this figure is justified," said its chairman Milan Semančík. Slovak food products represent only 40 percent of similar goods on the shelves, while a more balanced approach is needed in the relations between sellers and farmers and food producers, according to chamber's representatives.
