Slovak embassy still in Tel Aviv

Slovakia is not holding talks on relocating its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Foreign Ministry spokesman Peter Susko informed on Tuesday. Susko thus disavowed reports by some Israeli media, according to which Slovakia is among the countries that plan to move their embassies to Jerusalem. The spokesman underlined that the Slovak Republic's stance had been communicated unequivocally, seeing as Bratislava considers the two-state solution to be the only viable and sustainable solution that secures both Israel's security and the Palestinians' demand for statehood and sovereignty. As for the future status of Jerusalem, Slovakia observes the UN Resolution No. 478/1980 and embraces the joint EU position, according to which the status of Jerusalem as the future capital city of two states must be the result of direct talks between Israeli and Palestinian sides and not of unilateral political decisions. Slovakia will continue to respect the international consensus on Jerusalem, anchored in the given UN Resolution.
