Black ice alert

Black ice alert

The High Tatra mountain resort recorded a tragic Christmas this year. A Polish mountaineer and three Czech tourists died after fatal accidents and three people were transported to hospital with heavy injuries. The rescuers confirmed that the cause of the tragedies was the current slippery terrain in the mountains. This is dangerous not only to people but to animals, too. Tourists have spotted several dead chamois for whom the thawed snow turned into ice was fatal. The weather is also dangerous on the roads. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Office issued a first-level alert over black ice that has formed in some districts of the Banská Bystrica, Prešov and Košice regions.
