Slovakia will support the opinion of European Council President Donald Tusk in the discussions on migration at the upcoming EU summit, stated Prime Minister Robert Fico on Thursday before the start of the two-day EU summit in Brussels. The EU leaders might face a difficult debate on migration, especially after not all member states of the European Union appreciated Tusk's Tuesday statement that the system of mandatory quotas for refugees is ineffective. According to the Slovak PM, Tusk accurately named the truth - that quotas really are ineffective. This was a reminder that it is not only about the technical nature of the quotas but also about the political aspect, because the decision by interior ministers in September 2015 to introduce the temporary quota mechanism was adopted by a qualified majority that significantly divided EU countries.
