Speaker of Parliament praises President's decision

Parliamentary Chair Andrej Danko has praised President Andrej Kiska's decision to appoint new Constitutional Court judges to fill the empty posts. "I see this as a possibility to start an expert dialogue on improving the conditions for selecting constitutional judges," he claimed in a written statement. An amendment to the law that will regulate the selection of candidates for constitutional judges is urgent, and the responsibility currently lies with Justice Minister Lucia Žitňanská. Opposition party MP Jan Budaj said this in response to President Andrej Kiska's decision to appoint Mojmir Mamojka, Jana Laššáková and Miroslav Duriš as Constitutional Court judges. "An additional nine constitutional judges should be added in 2018. If this happens without a change in the law, Slovakia will face the risk that the Constitutional Court will be one-sided," said Budaj. More on the President's decision in the Topical issue after the news.
