Time to comply with Paris Climate Agreement

It is time to begin complying with the Paris Climate Agreement specifically, stated European Commission Vice-president for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič at the Paris climate summit on Tuesday. Šefčovič therefore welcomed the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron to organise the One Planet Summit two years after the adoption of the climate agreement. "And today is the time to start fulfilling this agreement specifically," he told reporters. The EU commissioner presented ten new European initiatives to help develop a modern green economy at the summit. Slovak Environment Minister László Sólymos thinks that the measures taken so far will not be sufficient. "It seems that if we only continue doing what we had agreed to do, we will not manage to keep it under 2 degrees," he said in Paris on Tuesday. According to Sólymos, the solution lies in higher investments into new "green" technologies and better care for forests. At the summit around 4,000 delegates are discussing funding for climate protection measures or carbon neutrality commitments. The summit is taking place two years after the Paris Climate Agreement was adopted.
