Regional governors and mayors will continue to be allowed to serve simultaneously as lawmakers in the future. Parliament on Tuesday rejected a constitutional amendment sponsored by the opposition party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) that is aimed at banning MPs from holding parallel executive public posts as well as wielding statutory powers in public institutions. According to the liberals, such an accumulation of public offices grants unfair advantages to the organisation or entity so governed and also presents lawmakers with a conflict of interest during various votes.
