Strong wind and heavy snow are complicating life in some of the northern, central and eastern Slovak regions. Due to fallen trees, some of the key traffic lines had to be closed. Several ski resorts closed down due to obstacles on roads as well as electricity shortages. In the Žilina region, northern Slovakia, sixty thousand households were left with no electricity. The mountain rescue team expected strong winds in the middle and high altitudes nearing a snowstorm mainly in the afternoon. Due to the higher temperatures, the lowland parts of the country are experiencing heavy rain.
