Five Slovak bomb-disposal specialists who have taken part in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan have been presented special Commendation Medals, and two other specialists were awarded Bronze Star Medals by U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia Theodore Sedgwick at a ceremony that was held at the National Centre for Explosive Ordnance Disposal in Novaky, in western Slovakia.
The US Ambassador stated that these medals were highly deserved as the work of the specialists is important, demanding and life-threatening. Slovak teams are the only ones that are carrying out such work in Afghanistan. A total of five Explosives Ordnance Disposal teams from Slovakia have been deployed there since 2010. Chief-of-General-Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces Peter Vojtek said that the two Slovak Explosives Ordnance Disposal Centres provide top specialists that Slovakia hopes to use more in explosives disposal and in tackling various emergency situations also here in Slovakia. The US Ambassador Sedgwick praised Slovakia's contribution towards foreign military missions and co-operation between the U.S.A. and the National centre for Explosives Ordnance Disposal.
