The Foreign and European Affairs Ministry has launched a new initiative aimed at raising public awareness on the importance of Slovakia's membership of NATO and the EU. "Our goal is not to get all people in Slovakia to love NATO, but we want to highlight the fact that there is no better alternative for ensuring defence and security than that which stems from our membership in NATO," said Deputy Minister Ivan Korčok. Slovakia is one of the five pilot countries in which the campaign is being launched. The far-right party Our Slovakia which has 14 MPs in the Slovak Parliament has been conducting an anti -NATO campaign for years. It has launched a petition calling for a referendum on Slovakia's EU and NATO membership.
