Prime Minister insists on freezing salaries

Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) expects Parliament to vote to change its decision on freezing the salaries of constitutional officials by the end of the year. Coalition partners, however, do not see any reason for a continuation of the salary freezes. "Or, I will merge the vote on freezing the salaries of constitutional officials with a vote of confidence in the Cabinet," reads Fico's statement. According to Béla Bugár, head of the ruling coalition party Most-Híd, Prime Minister Fico chose incorrectly when freezing the salaries of constitutional officials, adding that it creates unnecessary tension in the ruling coalition.
