Christian Democrats attract former members of other parties

Two former members from the erstwhile party of the current Government Sieť (Network) joined the extra-parliamentary Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) on Monday, party spokesman Stano Župa told the TASR press agency. "We're witnessing big interest from former Sieť, NOVA and SDKU-DS members to join our movement. We will deal with these applications in line with its strategy of openness," said Župa, adding that this serves as evidence that the party is regaining ground. It failed to make it to Parliament in last year's general election for the first time ever. In a poll released last week, however, the party received a promising 7 percent, while at least 5 percent is needed to make it into Parliament. Meanwhile, its candidate Milan Majerský was elected governor of the Prešov region this month, out-powering Smer-SD's Peter Chudík, who had reigned there for 16 years.
