Discussions on work bonuses continue

After introducing a proposal for higher bonuses for night, weekend and holiday work by the coalition, Prime Minister Robert Fico worked an eight-hour night shift at the Lozorno Automobile Industrial Park, Bratislava region. The Opposition, namely the Ordinary People Party (OĽANO), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and the extra-parliamentary Christian Democrats (KDH) condemned it. They called it a farce and an effort to slow down the fall in support for Smer-SD, not a gesture of solidarity. The Ordinary People Party head Igor Matovič pointed out that the coalition had not supported a proposal to increase the bonuses sponsored by his party some six months ago. Moreover, representatives of the Slovak Bakers Council are also fighting against an amendment, which they call winding in the proposed form. According to the Business Alliance of Slovakia, people would have more benefits from decreasing taxes and levies. The Alliance also criticized the fact that the changes are introduced as a proposal by an MP, which prevent them from going through an interdepartmental review which would allow public discussion among government and social partners.
