The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic on Wednesday released a statement in which it strongly rejects repeated attempts by the Russian media to falsify historic events linked to the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops in 1968. This comes as a reaction to the publication by the Russian Ministry of Defence TV station "Zvezda" of an article entitled "Czechoslovakia should be grateful to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics for 1968: History of the Prague Spring". Moreover, this was not the only case of the Russian media falsifying the history around the 1968 events in Czechoslovakia. According to the statement by the ministry, the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops was a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law, led to the deepening of the totalitarian regime's violation of human rights, and caused suffering to a great number of people.
