3.71 million tourists were accommodated in Slovakia during the first eight months of 2017, representing a year-to-year increase of approximately 3,000, reported the SITA press agency on Monday. This means that the summer tourist season was successful, outnumbering the previous record year. "Tourism is currently in good shape, providing jobs for more than 300,000 people in all parts of the country," said Transport, Construction and Regional Development Minister Arpád Érsek. More than half of the tourists came from Slovakia. The number of foreign visitors also increased by 8.3%. The highest number - one third of them - came from the Czech Republic, followed by Poles, Germans, Hungarians and Austrians. The most visited was the Bratislava region with 1.1 million tourists.
