Slovakia among candidates for another car-making plant

Chinese electric carmaker Zhi Dou, which belongs to the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group together with Volvo, is considering Slovakia as one of the possible destinations for its future plant, wrote the Hospodárske Noviny daily on Monday. According to its website, the decision should be made soon. The plant with a value of €400 million should start production in 2020. "The expected production capacity is 3,000 electric vehicles per month, which requires approximately 500 employees," said Branislav Kocper, executive manager of Zhi Dou Slovakia. The choice of the plant's locality is in its early stages and the company is considering Slovenia, Poland, Hungary, Romania and eastern Slovakia. According to Kopcer, the eastern Slovak region offers interesting industrial parks with good infrastructure and companies which could potentially become suppliers for the carmaker.
