Nearly 500 new military vehicles to be purchased

Slovakia is heading for a historic overhaul within its armed forces. At Wednesday's government session, MPs were presented with a proposal from the Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš (an SNS nominee) for the delivery of 8x8 and 4x4 armoured military vehicles. Much of the material in the proposal is sensitive thus full details are not yet known. The government, however, already approved a project in May, to purchase 81 8x8 armoured vehicles and 404 4x4 vehicles for almost €1.2 billion next year. The ministry plans to involve the Slovak defence industry upon purchasing the vehicles.
