At a Eurogroup meeting on Monday, Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kažimír (Smer-SD) confirmed that he's interested in running for the post of chairman of the eurozone finance ministers group, although his bid still isn't official. The vote is scheduled for December and is aimed at finding a replacement for Jeroen Dijsselbloem, with the new Eurogroup chief set to assume the post in January. "We're due to hold talks within the political family of socialists and social democrats, of which I'm a member," said Kažimír, quoted by the TASR press agency. Another figure being considered among the socialists for the post is Portuguese Finance Minister Mario Centeno. Meanwhile, the European People's Party, which is the strongest entity in European Parliament, won't put forward a candidate, as it's already taken all key posts in the EU.
