Social welfare payments will go up by about 5 percent next year, probably as of July 1, said Labour, Social Affairs and Family Minister Jan Richter (Smer-SD) after an Economy and Social Council session on Monday. One of these benefits, the contribution for employed household members in relation to the 'activation contribution', will be doubled to €132.40 per month. "This means that if the head of the family, usually the man, husband or parent, lands a job and the family continues to flounder under the poverty threshold and on social welfare, the activation contribution won't be €66.20 as before but €132.40. This measure is designed to motivate people to work," claimed Richter.
