The Bratislava Regional Court definitively exonerated former tax directorate head Miroslav Mikulčík from the accusation of violation of duties in handling the property of others, the TASR press agency reported on Thursday. He held the post under the government of Iveta Radičová between 2010 and 2012. The prosecution maintained that Mikulčík committed a crime by signing an addendum to the contract with IBM on introducing a new tax-collection system. This addendum allowed IBM to relieve itself of any responsibility if there was a system collapse. Indeed, this later happened and the Financial Directorate had to return to the old system. The damage has been estimated at €8.8 million.
