The rules for drawing EU funds for education do not allow us to use the money to increase teachers' salaries, stated the Education Ministry on Thursday. It issued its statement in response to the Opposition Freedom and Solidarity party's proposal that the state should use EU funds to motivate young teachers as well as experienced ones. According to the ministry, the Education Human Resources Operational Programme cannot be used to pay teachers' salaries or for any income hikes. The Ministry also added that it had approached the European Commission concerning this issue in the past, but with a negative result.
