A 120-year-old apple tree from the western Slovak village of Bošáca became the Tree of the Year 2017. It is 13 meters high and has a circumference of 251 centimetres. The old apple tree will represent Slovakia at the European Tree of the Year competition in February 2018. Its owners received as a reward a dendrological study from the International Society of Arboriculture and a financial contribution of 300 euros. The region around the village of Bošáca is famous for its fruit orchards and fruit distillates.
