The Slovak government held a session at the site of the Gabčíkovo dam this morning, directly on the premises of the hydroelectric power plant. This was to mark the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the construction and operation of the controversial Gabčíkovo dam and lock complex. In addition to the issue of water management, ministers spoke about the extension of protected areas. Slovakia is expected to introduce 169 such areas into the European project Natura 2000.
