UPN amendment approved without President's signature

Changes in the running of the Nation's Memory Institute (UPN), recently adopted in Parliament, will enter into effect without the signature of President Andrej Kiska, who has some objections to the related law. The president objected to a provision making the statutory body of the administrative council a collective instead of a single person. Kiska argued that such a move would reduce a responsible approach towards individual actions, and he noted that Slovak laws don't stipulate collectives as statutory bodies in public-service institutions. In addition, Kiska believes that it will be possible to recall members of the administrative council based solely on vague objections to their work.
