A compromise has been reached by EU labour ministers concerning the posting of workers directive, announced Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Minister Jan Richter (Smer-SD) at a press conference on Tuesday. Richter praised an exemption from the regulation that concerns transport, while he also described a change in the length of the posting period to 18 months (originally 12 months) as a compromise solution, apart from the introduction of a four-year transition period. The directive originating from 1996 deals with the employment of people who've been sent by their employers to a different EU country to work on a temporary basis. The current changes should make sure that posted employees will receive the same salary as local people working in the same jobs. "Compromise solutions acceptable for Slovakia have emerged gradually. A decent basis for applying this directive in individual EU countries has been created," said Richter.
