Slovaks commemorated 102 years since the signature of the so-called Cleveland agreement in the USA on October 22. The first document on the common steps taken by Czechs and Slovaks in their fight for independence from the Austro-Hungarian monarchy was signed in 1915 at a time when the result of WWI was far from clear. Following estimates by various historians, one quarter of the Slovak population in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy emigrated to the USA at the break of the 19th and 20th centuries. "Slovaks living in Cleveland outnumbered Slovaks living in Bratislava. This was the largest Slovak community in the world," said Andrew Rajec, the President of the First Catholic Slovak Union of the United States of America and Canada.
