Slovakia has become the 31st regular member of the Network of European Meteorological Services (EUMETNET), an organisation made up of national weather agencies providing a framework within which to organise co-operative programmes among its members, said Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) spokesperson Ivan Garcar.
SHMU director Martin Benka said that this can be viewed as a great diplomatic achievement for Slovakia. "SHMU is the only organisation in Slovakia that is able to share important information and warnings with strategic meteorological institutions both within Europe and world-wide via our national meteorological service," he stated.
