Regulation office reacts to President

Households and entrepreneurs in Slovakia are paying less for electricity than the EU average. Office for the Regulation of Network Industries (URSO) spokesman Radoslav Igaz reacted on Thursday to President Andrej Kiska's recent moves against new legislation concerning this office. Kiska announced on Wednesday that he had asked the Constitutional Court to examine whether an amendment to the Act on the Regulation of Network Industries is in line with the Constitution and EU law. At the same time he stated that Slovakia has among the highest electricity charges in the EU. "According to Eurostat, Slovak households pay significantly less for electricity than the EU average despite the fact that their bills already include support for the production of green energy, while such support is funded via different taxes in some other EU-member countries," said Igaz, adding that the same is valid for electricity charges paid by businesses.
