Members of the National Council on Tuesday approved an amendment to the Health Insurance Act. According to the amendment, the Slovak health service will receive a financial increase of €100 million this year through higher health insurance contributions for state insurers. More money for the sector has long been requested by non-state run hospitals, health insurance companies, employers, the outpatient sector and patient organisations. The increase in funding should help the struggling state health insurer Všeobecná zdravotná poisťovňa, which is operating under a recovery plan due to high losses suffered last year.
