No fear for sugar shortage in Slovakia

In reaction to the scrapping of EU quotas on sugar production, Slovak Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Gabriela Matečná (a Slovak National Party nominee) said there was no need for panic. According to Matečná, there will be enough sugar on the EU market as France, Germany and Poland have increased its production, therefore retailers should refrain from creating a panic due to its purported shortage. The Agriculture Minister added that Slovakia has always had a lower quota [for sugar production] than consumption, so it has always been importing sugar.
