On Thursday, 21 September, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the EU and Canada enters into force provisionally. The agreement provides the facilitation of trade in goods and services and the elimination of tariffs and trade barriers. According to the Slovak Economy Ministry, this is the most ambitious free trade agreement the EU has reached with an important G7 partner. The trade contract will probably have only an indirect economic impact for Slovakia, as the share of its trade with Canada in total exports is less than half a percentage point. However, according to the Economy Ministry, the agreement will be very important at the level of the European Union, with the creation of new employment and investment opportunities.
