New Student-led anti-corruption march slated for Monday

A third large-scale anti-corruption march will be held on Monday, September 25, in Bratislava, TASR learnt from protest organisers on Tuesday. Furthermore, Slovaks living in Prague are expected to gather before the building of the Slovak Embassy on the same day in a show of solidarity with the protesters. "We continue because we care about Slovakia... We continue because we care about this country being just and a suitable place to live for all decent people," said one of the organisers David Straka. The route of the march is set to lead from Hviezdoslav Square to SNP Square. The young demonstrators and actors are to be joined also by teachers and scientists. The students harbour similar set of demands as during previous marches: investigation into the "Bašternák" and "Gorilla" cases, the ouster of Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) and Police Corps President Tibor Gašpar as well as the resignation of Special Prosecutor Dušan Kováčik. They have managed to collect approximately 70,000 signatures for their anti-corruption petition to date.
