Alcohol consumption decreased in Slovakia

In the past two decades, the consumption of alcohol in Slovakia has decreased by almost two litres a year per capita. This results from the year-on-year comparison of the Statistical Office. While in 1990 the consumption of pure alcohol per capita reached 10.4 litres, in 2015 it was "only" 8.7 litres per capita. Slovaks tend to practice so-called binge drinking, which means they drink six or more glasses of alcoholic beverage per sitting. According to statistics, people in Slovakia mostly prefer to drink beer, then wine and spirits comes last. Alcohol-wise, Slovakia is part of the wider Central European drinking culture.
