Companies registered in Slovakia have to pay the highest mandatory social and health insurance contributions from among 19 Central and Eastern European countries. With 35.2 percent of the gross monthly wage, Slovakia is at the top of the ranking compiled by the consulting firm Mazars in its CEE Tax Guide 2017. The second place belongs to the neighbouring Czech Republic with 34 percent. In comparison, the levies payed by employers in Hungary reach 23.5 and in Poland 21 percent of the gross monthly wage.
