Slovakia Might not Keep its Deficit below 3 percent

Slovakia's budget plans have been more or less drafted in accordance with the EU-set rules, the European Commission reported on Friday in its first assessment of budgets of individual EU-member states.

Nevertheless, there are certain concerns that the country may not be able to keep the deficit of its public finance under the level of three percent of GDP in 2014 and 2015. According to the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Matters Olli Rehn, Slovakia successfully meets the EU requirements to curb its expenditures. Yet, he believes that fluctuations in the volume of the structural deficit may climb up to 0.5 percent of GDP in the mid-term, however.
