At India's invitation, Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák visited India between August 27-28 in the context of assuming the post of president of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in September. Lajčák met his counterpart Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs State Minister M. J. Akbar as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Lajčák and Modi discussed the issues of combating terrorism and poverty, as well as the need to educate young people in particular, and the role of regional organisations in the international system. In addition, Lajčák presented his priorities to the Indian prime minister for the upcoming UN General Assembly session. These include improving people's lives, preventing conflicts, addressing migration and human rights, promoting the goals of sustainable development and combating climate change.
