As of 14:00 on Wednesday (23-8) Slovakia raised its official terrorism alert to Level 2. This decision was made by the Interior Ministry under the recommendation of the National Security and Analytical Centre. Police Corps President Tibor Gašpar told reporters that the reasons for the increased threat level are the current terrorist-related events in Europe, as well as several public events expected in Slovakia in the near future. According to Gašpar, however, there is nothing extraordinary about this move, as increases from the first to second threat level have been made in Slovakia several times.
